Located close to Venice, the scenic island of Giudecca is a suburb of the city, although it was once an exciting, vibrant location, full of splendid palaces, gardens and wealthy Italians.
Giudecca was originally named Spinalunga (long spine) after its overall shape. These days Giudecca is home to a much slower pace of life, and the long, wide quayside that surrounds the city is an ideal place for a walk, providing truly spectacular views of Venice across the water.
